So your hotel overbooked and you are now left with a problem. Here is what you can do to make sure that you get the better end of the situation:
Mistakes happen and unfortunately, you are the recipient of it. Shouting and acting obnoxious won’t do you good. What you need to do is to be courteous and be agreeable. Your hotel will offer solutions to the situation. Listen carefully so you can understand what is being said.
Be firm and stick to your guns. Make sure that the solutions the hotel comes up with will be amenable to you. If they are booking you out to another hotel, guarantee that:
- You are not buying shuttled off to a hotel more than 30 minutes away from where you were supposed to be.
- The hotel has the same star rating or higher
- The hotel should be making sure you are paying the same price. If the new hotel has a lower star rating, make sure that you are going to pay less.
Patience is a virtue. The more cooperative and agreeable you are, the more they will do their best to help you.
Make sure that you have a clear understanding of what you are receiving before you agree to transfer to an alternate accommodation. Get the contact information of the next level manager above the person who made new arrangements for you. If things do not go well after the transaction, you may request additional compensation some other time.
If negotiations are not going well, politely ask for the General Manager.
