How to Not Bring Work at Home

Stressed>Relaxing at Home

You bring work home and then you wonder why you are stressed out. Do your best to compartmentalize. The office is for work, and the home is for your personal time. By doing this, you’ll be able to lessen the risk of burning out.

If you don’t have regular weekends off, then try to combine your days off together. During your days off, don’t do work. Don’t even check your work e-mail. Do chores at home, go out, or do nothing. Might be difficult at first if you’re a workaholic but give your mind and body a break.

Just say no. You can always say no. To do this, you need to make a plan so that you’ll be able to squeeze in tasks during your working hours.

Prioritize and make lists to help you keep track of the projects and tasks you need to finish. There is work that can be done at a much later time. Try working on the ones that are needed immediately. By doing this, you won’t always be in a rush to do something, and in the process forget more tasks.

Turn off your cell phone and Blackberry. Screen your phone calls. If they come from work, let them go to voicemail. Do not open your work laptop. Once you do, you kno it will be difficult to stop. Relish the time that you are at home. Relax.
