How to Pay Your Bills on Time

February 10, 2010 | In: Featured, Finance, General, Personal

Paying bills can be difficult, especially if you have a little trouble with the monthly budget. What more if you want to pay them on time?

The simplest way to do this is to pay the bills as they come along. Many companies send their bills at least a week ahead of the due date so you can have more time to pay them. Just be sure to track what you have paid, especially if you have a lot of them coming in a month.

Banks now offer electronic bill payment services. You can now arrange your bank to automatically transfer funds at the demand of the vendor. You can also choose to release your funds per bill and set a specific date for this. If your problem in paying bills is because you tend to spend them all on other things, then this could help prioritize your spending. However, make sure that you always have enough money on your account so you won’t get short.

You can also always pay bills on a set schedule and make sure you incorporate them in your budget. Buy a cheap folder where you can place all the bills coming in a month. Choose a specific date when you will pay the bills at one go. A few days before that date, sort out your bills and allocate funds for each, whether with your cash on hand or via electronic fund transfer. Check if all the bills are correct. If there are bill statements that are missing or erroneous, contact the company.
