How to play Windows Media Center Files on your Iphone or Ipod

May 22, 2008 | In: Computers

If you are looking for a way to convert Windows Media Center files to Mpeg-4 this may be the solution you’ve been searching for..

Windows Media Center (MCE) stores it’s files as DVR-MS files in this directory.

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Recorded TV

Your goal is to convert these files into Mpeg4 format so that you can import them into Itunes.

I found 2 free pieces of software that enable you to do this..

First, you’ll need to download and install the DVRMS Toolbox, it even has a component which removes the commercials.

Next, you’ll need to download and install the Free Ipod Video Converter

Once you have both programs installed open up the DVR MS Toolbox and locate a file to convert in.

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Recorded TV

Select an Output file name..

Once you run the converter it will change the DVR-MS file to Mpeg.

After that files done, open up your Ipod Converter and click the “Add Files” button,  find the file you just converted and add it to the queue.   Then click Convert.   This will change the file to mpeg-4.

That’s it.  You’ll then be able to import that file into Itunes and synch with your Video Ipod or Iphone.

The process does take 20 minutes or so per 1 hour show..  But you can also batch process your files and just let them run overnight.

Next day, import into Itunes and synch up.

This is a great way to load your favorite TV shows, movies etc, onto your Iphone.
