Naps for babies and young children are important as sleep helps them grow properly and healthily. This is also important in order to establish your children’s sleeping pattern. You don’t want them awake the whole night and then sleeping the whole day.
To do this, the most important thing to consider is being consistent. Think of a schedule that would be suitable for your child. This should include waking, eating, and sleeping (decide on the appropriate number of naps). Observe your child’s natural pattern and create your schedule based on this. Just make sure to adjust the schedule slowly.
For example, if your child usually takes a nap at 4 in the afternoon, and you want them to sleep at 3 PM instead, place your child in the crib or bed at 3 PM. Dim the lights, or pull the curtains close so that it’s a little dark. Turn off distracting sounds and make your child relax. This can be by reading a book, talking softly, or humming, or rocking the crib.
Don’t expect your child to sleep right away. This takes a bit of time. Just repeat the routine and later on, your child will be able to adjust to the new schedule.
