How to Prepare for a Paint Job
March 4, 2009 | In: Home
If you end up being assigned the troublesome job of re-painting a room or whatnot, here are some tips on how to make it a little easier for you. Who knows, you might end up enjoying the task.
1. Fashion a good coverall made out of a garbage bag when you’re painting up high (like the ceiling for example). Just cut out a hole at the bottom of the bag for your head to go through, and two at the sides for your arms. You can wear an old shower cap to protect your head from paint spatters.
2. Instead of using masking tape to protect the glass when painting window frames, why don’t you try using dampened strips of old newspaper. Stick them on the glass along the frames. They can easily be peeled off while still damp.
3. Still on window frames, try using an eye shadow sponge applicator for hard to reach cracks and crevices.
4. To catch drip and spills from a gallon-sized paint can. Glue a heavy-duty paper plate (i.e. plastic coated) under the can.
5. If you are painting at home and need to answer the phone, etc., slip a kitchen-sized plastic garbage bag over the paint try. This will keep the paint from drying.
6. For easy clean up, use vegetable oil for your hands if you work with oil-based paints. Wash hands with soap and water after.
