How to Prepare Your Home for a Pet

April 19, 2010 | In: Home, Pets

Are you deciding on finding a pet for yourself or for your children? Here are some things you may need to do to prepare your home for a pet before you head out to get one :

For young, curious, and destructive pets, it is best to allow them restricted access in the home. Identify which part of your home where you want your pets to romp about so you can pet-proof these rooms.

Look for electric wires, curtain cords, cleaning supplies, plants, foods, pesticides, and other cleaning implements. Make sure that you account for everything and that you put covers on them and store chemicals where your pet can’t get to them.

Buy pet things so that you do not disrupt the natural actions of your animals. Provide scratch poles and chew toys as alternative to chewing shoes and scratching furniture.

Make sure that you are ready to provide proper care and nourishment to your pets. Like children, they need special attention for them to grow. They need food, exercise, attention, and training for them to be obedient and wonderful members of the family.

Change yoru habits. Close windows, doors, and leave toilet seats down. Clean up after yourself so your pet do not destroy objects and so they won’t fall into accidents.
