Preventing Osteoporosis
Osteoporosis is a disease that weakens the bones and which may lead to fracture due to the disruption of bone mineral density. Women are prone to this, especially after the onset of menopause.
It is important to start early. Women shouldn’t wait until they have reached menopause before they can begin taking care of their bones. The younger you start, the stronger your bones will get.
Preventing osteoporosis, like other diseases begins with a healthy lifestyle. Think what bad habits you have developed. This could be drinking, and smoking too much, lack of exercise, and eating of unhealthy foods. All of these could contribute to the weakening of bones.
Make a plan on how to transition to a healthier lifestyle. We know that this could be difficult so begin slowly and gradually progress until you have kicked the bad habits out completely.
Get sufficient amount of vitamins and minerals. Calcium and vitamin D are good for the bones. You can check with your doctor or nutritionist which foods could be beneficial to you, or if you need to take supplements.
Exercise. Walking is a good exercise and it is low impact too as it distributes your body weight evenly. Good blood circulation will make sure your body get all the nutrients and oxygen it needs.
Get routine check-ups to make sure that you are in tip-top shape.
