How to Protect Your Computer from Viruses

Here are some tips to keep your computers and laptops safe from all those viruses and malware out there:
1. For Windows users, Microsoft regularly releases free downloads that help fix security problems with Internet Explorer, Windows, and other Microsoft software. Make sure that your auto update is turned on. If you are on XP Home, you can go to Control Panel and click on Security. You can change your preferences there.
2. Install a good firewall program. ZoneAlarm and Comodo are good firewalls. They will prevent programs from acessing the Internet unless you grant them permission. They also block intruders from accessing your PC.
3. Always check for viruses, which can infect your PC’s system files and damage very important data; and spyware, which is a malicious code that tracks your movements on the Internet. It can also affect your PC’s performance. AVG is a good free anti-virus software. Always check for updates and always run scans at least once a week.
4. Update your browsers (such as Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox) for security features such as pop-up blockers and phishing filters which help keep you safe when browsing.
