How to Regulate Laptop Use in the Classroom

April 19, 2010 | In: Computers, Consumer Electronics, Education

We must all admit the computers now play a large part in the life of students. Most students could not be parted from their laptops. They even bring them to class and instead of using good old fashioned notebooks, they even use these electronic substitutes.

As a teacher, you don’t have to fight this, what you can do is to adapt instead to these changes instead.

Include instructions of laptop use in the classrom in the syllabus or course outline you distribute at the beginning of the course. You may list down your rules and limitations of laptop use.

Don’t forget to include other information students might need. For example, you will not allow your students to plug in their laptops into the electric sockets in class, or if internet connection will not be available during class.

Laptops may be allowed during lectures, but they would definitely be allowed during tests or exams.

You may also include instructions on which web sites are appropriate for classroom use, if internet can be accessed.
