Cure Puffy Eyes
People can develop puffy eyes if they don’t get eight hours of sleep every day or if they have allergies. Those who stay up late for successive nights are more prone to experiencing this problem. Puffy eyes are a result of the retention of fluid around the eye areas but are only temporary.
The other most common causes of puffy eyes too much crying, high intake of salt, physical and emotional stress, heredity, toxin and waste buildup in the body, too much drinking of alcoholic drinks, poor diet, sinus problems and changes in body fluid levels resulting from hormonal imbalance.
Although puffy eyes are often noticeable upon waking up in the morning, it can actually occur any time of the day. This condition should not be a cause for alarm because it can easily be cured and without the need for surgery. If the condition worsens such that your eyelids become very swollen, it’s time then to consult a doctor.
If you’re one of those experiencing puffy eyes every now and then, go for the traditional methods first. Home remedies such as using cucumber and potato can be of great help. Chill them first before slicing them thinly. After you’ve made the slices, put one or two over your closed eyes for about 10 to 15 minutes. This will help in reducing the redness and inflammation. Green or black tea bags are a good alternative as well.
The cold compress is another safe and proven cure that can be done at home. Get an ice bag or a small Ziploc plastic bag and fill it with ice. Then use a face towel or any washcloth to wrap it before placing it on your eyes. The cold temperature is effective in reducing the swelling.
Another technique is to splash your face with water mixed ice cubes. Do the splashing in a continuous manner for about three to five minutes.
Applying cold cream moisturizes or eye cream will be helpful for mild puffiness. While you’re applying the cream, tap gently the area surrounding your areas to help drain the excess liquid.
When lying down or when you sleep, make sure that you elevate your head by using two or three pillows. The idea here is to prevent the excess fluid from gathering under your eyes. In a few minutes, the puffiness will disappear.
You can also do some eye exercises to cure the problem. Move your eyes in a circular motion starting clockwise and then counter clockwise. After that, move both your eyes in all direction.
Still another effective remedy is the hot water and salt compress. All you have to do is make a mixture of hot water (just steamy water please) and one teaspoon of salt. Soak your cotton of eye pads in the solution and apply to your closed eyes for five to 10 minutes. Wait until the pads are cooled before removing them. Repeat the procedure under you feel relief.
Finally, get quality sleep as much as possible. This means six to eight hours of straight sleep. If you can do this, you will have less problems with puffy eyes.
