Removing Gum from Hair
This doesn’t happen often, but it has been known to happen. So what do you do if a lump of chewing gum lands on your hair? Here are some tips:
Don’t try to remove it when it’s still sticky. You will only make matters worse if you do so. Just get an ice cube and apply it to the lump until it becomes brittle. Once brittle, the gum will break up. Just keep on applying until you get all the offending material off. Apply ice cube for the final time and use a comb to remove the rest of the particles.
Just in case you have no ice around (but near a drugstore), you can buy one of those wart freezers/removers. It’s the cold temperature that is the key here.Squirt on the gum and it will freeze it, even faster than it would with an ice cube.
Other kitchen and household products that can be used to lubricate chewing gum away from the hair are peanut butter, egg whites, mayonnaise, and mineral oil. Just put a few dollops on the gum and ease it away. A little messy, but nothing that a little shampooing can’t help. Incidentally, mayonnaise and egg whites are also good for the hair, making it shiny and smooth.
The last resort is of course, getting a pair of shears and cutting your hair with the gum off.
