tweezersRemove An Ingrown Hair

Many women who are conscious of their looks often want to stay hairless as well. And so they do so many things just to get rid of hairs on the different parts of their body such as their legs, arms, upper area of the mouth and armpits. They shave, wax and pluck every now and then to make sure that they look clean all the time.

The downside of all these techniques to get rid of unwanted hair is ingrown hair. Ingrown hairs develop when hair is cut below the skin and then grows into the hair follicle’s side rather than out of it. What results are red or black bumps on the skin surface that can be painful or itchy at times. People with curly hair are at higher risk of experiencing ingrown hair.

This problem is not such a big issue, though, because ingrown hair can easily be removed. There are two ways to deal with it – either remove it or just let it grow out naturally. But then again, women who are busy professionals and those who travel often wouldn’t want to wait for the ingrown hair to grow out. So what are the ideal ways then to remove ingrown hair fast and with less pain if possible.

  • Use the tweezer or needle. These two tools should be used when the hair has already grown out of the skin. When using the tweezer or needle, make sure that you sterilize them before plucking the ingrown hair. After the hair is removed, put alcohol or peroxide on a cotton then apply it on the open pore. The area should be clean and dry to prevent the return of any ingrown hair.
  • Apply hot compress. Sometimes, ingrown hairs hide under the skin so it can be difficult to remove it. In this case, the skin really has to be opened which you should not try to do. The best recourse is to use hot compress on the area to allow the skin to soften and to let the ingrown hair come out of the surface.
  • Squeeze the pustules. If a pustule has formed, you can slowly squeeze it while doing the hot compress to let the hair go out to the skin’s surface. When the hair is out, that’s the time you remove it with a sterilized tweezer.
Exfoliate and moisturize daily. Do some exfoliating and moisturizing of your skin on a daily basis. This should be done after bathing to soften the skin and remove dead skin cells that may be trapping the hair underneath your skin. For exfoliation purposes, use pads, loofahs and scrubs together with cleansers containing salicylic acid.
  • After the bath. The best time to remove any ingrown hair is after a hot bath or shower. This is the time when your skin is soft and its pores are open so getting rid of the hair should be fast and easy. Make sure to apply warm compress first to let the hair stand and easy to be removed.

Whether you’re shaving, plucking or waxing, keep in mind to do it the right way to avoid ingrown hairs. Another thing is avoid using very tight clothes to let your skin breathe and hair to grow naturally.
