How to Resign Properly

Here are some tips on how to file a resignation:
Before you sit down in front of your computer and type down your two weeks notice, make sure that you have thought about it carefully. Remember that once it is submitted, it cannot be revoked.
If you are leaving due to differences with the boss or if you are finding dissatisfaction with your job, do not write your resignation letter while you are still emotional. You might use accusatory or offending language which will not help you when you ask for reference for a potential employer.
Take your time to write one and make sure you write drafts first before printing the final one.
To help you keep everything in check, make sure that the language you use is simple and professional. Remain courteous.
You do not need to specify why you are leaving and do not give samples of disagreements with co-workers, or your disappointment with the company. Simply thank your soon-to-be ex boss for the opportunity to work for the company.
Note the exact date of your departure and keep a copy of the letter for your personal records while you give the original to your immediate supervisor or manager.
Follow the SOP of the company. You may be asked for an exit interview. You may also be asked to turn in your badge, and other company-owned stuff you’ve been given. You may also be required to train someone to replace your position. You may not be able to get a clearance if you do not comply.
Remember not to badmouth anyone in the company as you may have to ask for referrals later on. It’s always better not to burn your bridges.
