How to Respond to a RSVP

August 20, 2010 | In: Behavior and Manners

RSVP’s in invitations require the recepient to reply and confirm their attendance. It is good manners and the very decent thing to do. Hosts ask for replies because they need to finalize their plans.

Respond right away. This means replying within a day or two upon receipt of the invitation. How to do it? Hosts usually include how to respond, be this by placing a call, or by mailing back a response card.

If you are to phone in your RSVP, call the number indicated on the invitation. Whether the call is answered by a person, or by an answering machine, be sure to speak politely, clearly, and make your message brief.

State your name. Thank the hosts for the inivitation.Confirm the date, time, and venue. Give your response by saying that you’d love to go to the event, and if you are bringing someone along (make sure you are allowed to do so), state your partner’s name. If you’re not attending, simply say that you would love to go to the event but you are sorry that you already have a scheduled appointment on that date. You don’t need to elaborate this further. Leave your contact number in case you need to be reached before the actual event.

As for response cards, simply fill out the card and post it by mail within two days upon receiving the invitation.
