You’ve seen this on TV for sure. There’s this muscled man who rips a thick phone book in half using only his two hands. How could he do that? And then you wonder if you can ever do the same feat.

The answer is yes you can. A little practice is all it takes and then you can eventually amaze your family and friends with your extraordinary talent.

So let’s start. First hold the phone book at the top corners making sure that the cover is facing you. Firmly grip each corner with your hands while your arms are in front of you.

Next position the bottom part of the phone book against your hip. The way you’re holding the book should be such that your hands are forming a letter W. This means that your thumbs are at the center of the book applying pressure there while your forefingers are pointing outwards from the book.

Give the phone book a very strop grip and squeeze. Then where your thumbs are, apply more pressure such that the book’s center creates a fold. Now as you do this, pull the book corners outwards and in a downward direction. This movement should cause the front cover to tear apart first followed by the pages. Just remember the way you break a stick because it’s the same hand movement that you need to do to rip the phone book in half.

In performing this act, only the initial part will be hard to do but once the ripping starts, everything will follow. Maintain the level of your strength as you continue to tear the entire book so that you can finish in just one sweep. The more strength you apply, the easier it will be to rip the book.

If you wish to try a thicker phone book, it will of course require more strength from your hands and fingers so just keep practicing.
