timeOrganizing a Speed-Dating Event

A speed-dating event like any other event, relies on its organizers to make sure that it is successful. No matter what the reason is for holding a speed-dating night, there is no excuse for to be boring and chaotic. It’s not just about the money, and finding “true love” is best left to the fates, it’s all about giving a fun and exciting evening for all. Here are some tips in running a successful speed-dating event:

Organizers are called such because they organize. Like in all other events, everything should be well-prepared with back-up plans. Be detail-oriented because there will be a lot going on before, during, and after the event. If you do not check even the minutest detail, the evening could end up in a disaster.

Set up a check list which not only include the tasks, but also the following:

the time frame of the task
deadline of the task
person/people in charge and their contact info

Tasks can be as varied as to securing the venue, signing up the participants, notifying the participants, and setting up at the venue, so keeping a checklist is actually a must – especially if you are doing the organizing all by yourself.

Keep everything on time. Start on time and end on time. Time is what speed-dating is all about. Every participant should be able to get a chance to talk with all the other participants. be strict with the rules. If each date is worth 10 minutes, then it should be the same for the rest. Besides, being quick and orderly will help to make sure that the participants will not get weary. Talking with about 15 different people can be very exhausting. If any pair clicks, then it is up to them to keep the connection after the event.

Be quick especially in comi up with the “scoring”. Don’t let too much time lapse between the event and the follow up. If you can set-up a scoring system which can immediately get results during the event, it would be so much better. This is so that the enthusiasm for the event won’t be dampened by delays.

Have fun. Be polite, lively, and enthusiastic yourself. No one would like to participate in an event when the organizer herself or himself looks as grumpy as Oscar the Grouch. It’s supposed to be a fun night not just for the participants but for you, the organizer, as well.
