Cycling is a good transportation alternative. It is not only environmentally friendly, it’s also a good form of exercise. However, there are some safety precautions a cyclist needs to mind:
Make sure that you have the necessary safety equipment such as a helmet to reduce injury when the cyclist gets involved in a fall or collision, a horn to alert pedestrians, motor vehicles, and other cyclists, and headlights for cycling at night.
Make sure that the bike that you use is properly sized and adjusted for your body. Don’t forget to bring a tool kit and a tire pump in case you need to make roadside repairs at certain points.
Make sure that you carefully map out your route so you can avoid freeways and other dangerous roads.
Make sure that you ride assertively and do not go against the traffic. Slow down and come to a complete stop at intersections.
Make sure that you know the laws and make sure that you obey them.
