Filing Cabinet Safety

You may find it funny but many employees have been victims of the rogue filing cabinet. Here are some tipz on how to keep office furniture safe and people-friendly.

Careful storing. People tend to fill filing cabinets with little thought of organization and proper weight distribution. Drawers should always be of near, if not equal weight. Place heavy and uneven items at the bottom. A heavy top drawer is sure to collapse on you. If you can’t close the door, or if there are things overflowing, then you’d have to do some rearranging.

Careful arrangement. Filing cabinets should be placed where there are very few people hustling about – in other words, where there is less traffic. No tripping over or bumping to an open drawer. Make sure that you place the cabinet on level ground. We’ve all heard the term, “hell on wheels.” You’ll soon find out what it is if you place your wheeled filing cabinet on a slope.

Careful maintenance. You don’t need to constantly buy filing cabinets. Good quality and sturdy cabinets can keep for years. All you have to do is make sure that you properly maintain them. Check for rough edges and smooth them. Repair loose handles and lubricate those drawers.
