Save A Wet Cell Phone
Accidents do happen in life. They can be major ones or they can be minor ones. They’re not intentional and sometimes, we just get surprised by it. Take for instance when your cell phone gets wet by accident. Oftentimes, the first thing we do is to give up on it or maybe even throw it away.
There are steps we can take, though, to save a wet cell phone. Don’t give up just yet because who knows, it may still work despite getting wet.
Take it out quickly. If you happen to drop your cell phone in a glass or pail of water, remove the gadget right away from the liquid. The quicker you get it from the water, the bigger the chance you can save it. Cell phones are protected by their plastic coverings and this protection prevents the entry of water into the body of the gadget at least for 20 seconds or less the reason why you have to be quick.
Remove the battery. Once you get hold of your wet cell phone, open the casing and take the battery out immediately. It’s very important to cut off the power to prevent the circuits inside from getting damaged.
Get the SIM card. After removing the battery, the next thing to do is to take out the SIM card as fast as you can. If it’s wet, just wipe it with a soft cloth or towel. Let it dry naturally along with the battery and the cell phone and soon enough, your beloved gadget will be back to functioning normally again. Most SIM cards can recover fast from water damage.
If, however, your cell phone gets wet in salt water such as when you’re out at the beach, do wash it first with fresh water before you dry all its components.
Dry it well. Drying your cell phone and its parts is crucial in saving the gadget. The important thing to remember is to eliminate moisture from the device as soon as possible and to keep it open.
There are ways to hasten the drying process. You can use the heat emitted from the vent on the rear part of your television unit or cable box. You can also use silica packs that come along with your shoe box or from the box of some electronic devices you have kept. Place the silica packs together with the phone inside a plastic bag for a few days. Silica is effective in absorbing moisture. The air conditioner is another great drying tool as the cold air it emits is dry and therefore won’t damage your phone.
Drying your gadget should take about three days or more to make sure that no moisture is present. You can then try attaching the battery and SIM card again to check if it’s already functioning. If it fails, let it dry for a few more days or if you’re really in doubt, you can bring it to your local cell phone dealer for a thorough checkup. Cell phone warranties, however, do not longer cover damages caused by water so be ready with some cash in case a repair is needed.
