How to Schedule Party Preparations

Many people do not enjoy hosting parties because of the time and effort that need be put into preparing for one. To avoid hassles, good planning and management skills are called for. And although this takes a bit of experience before it can be (almost) flawlessly achieved, here are some tips for newbie hosts:
1. Decide how many people are going to be invited.
2. Plan a menu. The party theme can help you decide what kind of food should be served.
3. Create four types of lists:
Food – which includes everything from snacks to “real” food. Include all the ingredients and divide them into two columns – perishable and non perishable.
Beverages – liquor and mixers, soda, juice, tea, coffee, etc. Make sure you have something for nondrinkers
Nonfood items – napkins, plastic glasses, plates, forks and spoons, flower pieces etc.
4. A week before the party, order everything needed to be ordered (i.e. icd, liquor, flowers). Buy the rest of the nonfood items and shop for the non-perishable food.
5. Five or four days before the party, check all the tablecloths, napkins, placemats, serving dishes, ashtrays, vases, etc. If you need to borrow more pieces, ask your friends about them now.
6. Three days before tha party, do the heavy cleaning and assign a cloak room. Have enough hangers ready.
7. Two days before the party, buy the perishables. Wash the veggies and trim them. Refrigerate.
8. The day before the party, prepare the dishes that can be served cold or those that can be reheated. If you think you will need extra ice, make them now.
9. On the day of the party, give the house a once-over. Straighten and neaten rooms or furniture that need them. Pick up the flowers and other stuff that you ordered a week before. Set up the eating areas. Assemble and cook the dishes that must be cooked for the day.
