Looking for ways to spend quality time with your family without breaking the budget? How about a movie night at home? Here are some tips on how to watch movies at home and make it as much fun as it could be in a theater.

Select a quality film. Since this is a movie night, of course, the flick of choice would make or break the evening. If tastes vary on the members of the family, you can have each person suggest a movie. Discuss and vote if necessary. If an agreement can’t be reached, you can always write the choices on a piece of paper and draw lots.

Don’t forget the snacks. Your kids will love movie night because it will be their chance to eat all the popcorn and soda they want. Have everyone write down their preferred snack at least a day before the scheduled movie night so that the person in-charge of snacks can have ample time to buy the items. Have the kids help you in preparing the popcorn. No waiting in line, and if you prefer healthier snacks (less butter and less salt on the popcorn), there’s no one to stop you too!

Treat it like it’s the real thing. Dim the room and have everyone turn off their phones. Try not to do chores simultaneously. Settle down on your favorite spot and focus on the film. Keep the remote away to avoid pausing and rewinding and everything else you can do that could interrupt the experience. If you need to go to the bathroom, do it before the film. Just make it real.
