How to Sit in a Formal Dinner

Sitting in a table set up for formal dining can be a little intimidating, especially for those who are more used to a hearty family setting. Don’t scared, read the follwoing tips and follow them when you’re invited to a sit-down dinner.
Allow your hosts to seat you or wait until you are told to sit wherever you like. If you are in a long table, the host or the guest of honor is usually seated at the head of the table.
If a male is with another female guest, or if he’s been partnered by the host with a female guest, the male guest allows the female to follow the host first. This is also the same when leaving the table. The women always choose where they want to sit.
Male guests should pull out the chair for the female guests when they are about to sit down or when they are getting up. Move the chair closer to the table when the female guest sits down.
When leaving the table, excuse yourself and carefully push back your chair so you do not hit anyone if there are more tables behind you.
