It’s a weekend night and your friends ask you to go have a drink with them in a bar. Unfortunately, you have no money and none of your friends seem to be generous that evening as well. What do you do?

Surely there is no need to sulk at home. Just follow these tips and you’ll get by just fine:
You do not need to order top shelf drinks. Generic is fine and it will cost you a whole lot less. Ask for the house brand and the waitress or bartender will not even blink if you do.
If you have a say on which bar to go to, then choose one which has specials such as happy hour prices (make sure you check the happy hours too). Also check if there is a cover charge. If you have a tight budget, avoid bars such as those.
Eat at home before going to the bar. This will save you some money from buying a meal or snacks while drinking in the bar.
You can also economize by ordering one simple drink and nurse it for an hour. Or buy locally brewed beer, Sometimes, it’s not the drink but the company that matters. I’m sure your friends won’t mind if you don’t drink that much. They can always buy you one or two if they think you’re drinking less.
If it’s just about the drinking, you can offer to host a drinking session at home. Have your friends bring some drinks over and you can try playing bartender at home. This will be a lot less expensive than going out.
