How to Spend Less on Your Wedding Reception

April 19, 2010 | In: Personal Finance, Weddings

One doesn’t have to spend much for one’s wedding reception, especially during these times when everyone is a little hard-up for cash. Here are some tips and suggestions on how to spend little for a wedding reception:

Opt to hold the reception at someone else’s home. This can be either of the couple’s parents or relative’s home. It can be a friends home, or if you already have your own that has sufficient space, you can hold it there too.

Instead of hiring a caterer to do the cooking, you can hire a friend or a family member/s to do it for you. They may even offer their service at a discount or as a wedding gift instead. This will also make sure that whatever you are having will be liked by most guests as they already know what are the usual stuff guests eat during gatherings.

This goes the same for your cake. If you personally know someone who can bake one for you at a discount or as a gift, then better. Get a simple and beautiful cake. Mind that you not add too many extras such as fountains and pillars as they also cost extra.

Table decorations can be made using cut flowers from a friend or a relative’s garden. Entertainment can be in the form of the local DJ or you can have a friend or relative who can take care of the music for you.
