Stopping Nail Biting
Kids usually nail bite but some adults too resort to this practice when under stress. Excessive nail biting like any bad habit should be broken. Here are some tipz on how to keep you from eating all of your nails:
Keep yourself busy. Focus on daily tasks and you’ll find yourself having less time to bite your nails unconsciously. If you can keep your hands full, literally, then all the better. You’ll have time to stop yourself if you need to put something down first before you place your hand to your mouth.
Find the real problem. Find out when you bite your nails. Keep a daily journal. Bad habits often result from a deeper cause. Is it everytime you miss a deadline? By knowing the root of the problem, you’ll have a better understanding of how to finally stop your nail biting habit.
Reward yourself. Treat yourself to a wonderful dinner if you have not bitten your nails for a week. Although punishment may be more to other’s liking, it is always better to use a more positive reinforcement such as a reward.
Cuticle cream. There are cream-based ointments for this problem. You simply apply to your nails and when you bite them, you’ll get a dose of potent bitter taste in your mouth. Use this for a month or longer to provide long lasting results.
