How to Stop Prank Calls

February 12, 2009 | In: Security

Do you get those very irritating prank calls in the middle of the night? Do you want this form of harassment to stop?

First of all, you have to find out if the calls you are receiving come from one person. Note the type of call (repetitive hang ups, heavy breathing), the time of the call, the target of the calls, and the voice of the caller. If it’s a rare prank, then it must be some teenager making a joke. If it’s repetitive and usually targets one person, then it must be personal. Note this well because this might escalate.

The best thing to do first is to ignore the calls. Hang up. Get a caller ID service and take advantage of it. Block calls coming from a certain number. You can do it on your cell or you can ask your phone company to do it.

If this doesn’t help, change your number. This may prove to be too drastic, but if it has reached the point that you are already scared, then you owe yourself your own safety and peace of mind to do this.

If push comes to shove, ask the phone company to unlist you and ask help from the police.
