cat Stopping Your Cat from Scratching Furniture

Scratching for cats is a natural behavior. They do this to mark their territory or to strengthen their muscles, or sharpen their claws.  However, if your pet kitty is  doing damage on your furniture, you might want to redirect its scratching elsewhere, Here’s how:

The best solution of course is to provide scratching posts for your cat.  Different cats like different types of texture. Observe your cat carefully and find out if they like wood, cardboard, or rugs.  Their scratching taste also differs in the orientation of the object – vertical or horizontal.  Once you’ve found out what your pet prefers, you can now go to your favorite pet store and purchase one.

Place the post in a place where your cat likes.  They usually like to scratch after waking up from a nap. You can also place the scratching post near their sleeping spot.  Encourage them by praising or giving food when they use the post.

Never encourage them to scratch old furniture. They won’t know the difference between old and new.  If all else fails,  consult your vet.
