How to Study and Not Burn Out

March 8, 2010 | In: Education, Featured, General

Here are some tips on how not to burn out while studying in college.

Try not to cram. Although there would be a few times that you will have to resort to last-minute studying or writing a term paper in the wee hours of the morning, it is always better to plan things ahead and make sure you get things done by the deadline. By managing your time properly, you will be able to accomplish all your tasks at an easy pace.

Always take breaks. Take a five minute break every hour or a thirty minute break every two hours. Use this to walk around, go to the bathroom, eat some snacks, take a powernap or play a few rounds of your favorite computer game. This will help you feel more energized.

Instead of drinking coffee and snacking on junk food while studying, make sure that you hydrate yourself with water and keep your tummy full with healthy snacks such as nuts and fruits. Caffeine and sugar can give you some boost, but once it wears off, you’ll find yourself really sleepy and it would be very difficult to concentrate.

Study with friends. Sometimes, having study groups can be beneficial, especially if you have really disciplined members. Lively discussions and having different perspectives can also give your study more depth. Plus, it’s not really much fun to study alone.
