How to Take Care of Upholstery

A little careful maintenance can keep your furniture looking like almost new even after years of use.

Keep your furniture clean by regularly dusting and vacuuming. You can also spray fabric freshener once a month to keep the upholstery smelling wonderful. For furniture that is water safe, you can also try to wipe the dirt away with a damp (not soaking) cloth.

Before doing a major cleaning, which should be done at least four times a year, make sure that you read the tags. Instructions will be there on what chemicals you should or shouldn’t use.

If you are going to try a cleaning product, you would first like to know what effect it has on the material of the furniture. Will it make the color bleed? Or will it damage the materal? Make sure that you test it first on a small, inconspicuous part of the material.

Spot clean immediately after the stain or dirt has been made. This will keep the dirt from seeping through the fabric, which then makes it more difficult to clean later on.
