Batteries are often overlooked when it comes to automotive care. Understandable, when they are almost self-maintained – either you have juice or not. However, wouldn’t it be better if you never experience the hassle of starting the car and finding out that there indeed is “no juice.” Here are some tips to prolong the batter of your vehicle:

Make sure that you get the correct battery for your car. Apparently, yes, there are different kinds of car batteries. Look it up in the owner’s manual of your vehicle. It usually states there what kind of battery, the amount of starting or cranking power that your vehicle needs.

Take note of your locale. You may need a northern climate battery so it will be able to stand the low temperature. If you are crossing states, then it is better to have a back-up battery that is climate appropriate.

Try not to drain the juice by having the radio on while the vehicle is not running. This goes the same for not being able to turn off after plugging anything to the cigarette lighter plug. This will only lessen you car battery’s lifespan. Try to use it only for emergency purposes.

Cars should be started and driven about an hour a week to keep the battery up. So if you are going to take a long vacation, better have the battery unplugged before you set off.
