How to Take Care of Your Health When Pregnant

April 19, 2010 | In: Family, Fitness, Nutrition

Being pregnant means you need to be extra careful of your health as you are no longer taking care of yourself, but also of the new life inside of you.

Avoid overeating. Even if you get cravings, and your taste buds are awry, try to maintain a healthy diet with lots of fruits and vegetables. Stick to lean or white meat so your blood pressure won’t go up. Eat enough but don’t overstuff yourself. Your child does not need more servings but the nutrition he or she gets from the food you eat.

Exercise. Some women feel and are healthy enough (with the approval of their doctors) to lift light weights. But you don’t need to do that if you’re not really used to such activities. Do exercises on the approval of your doctor. This can be taking light strolls in the morning or even doing hydro aerobics for pregnant women.

Always get enough sleep – not too little and not too much. Pregnant women often get tired all the time but sleeping too much cannot be good for your body. Regulate a sleeping pattern which is most comfortable for you and stick to it. Your body is also preparing for the strain of giving birth so give it ample rest.
