How to Trim Baby’s Nails

Here are tips and suggestions on how to safely and properly trim a baby’s nails:
Use a nail trimmer that you are comfortable in using. If it’s too small, or too big, it might slip from your hold and might injure your child. You might want to try using baby manicure sets which you can purchase from baby stores.
Make sure that the lighting is good so you’ll be able to see what you’re doing clearly.
Cut your child’s nails when he is calm and sleepy. This might involve going through the ritual of feeding, burping, and changing your baby.
Wash your hands before you begin. If your child is big enough, you may have your baby sit on your lap in such a way that your child is facing away from you. If not, you may do it while your baby is lying down.
Hold each hand still as you trim the nails. Be sure not to cut the pink quick.
If your child starts to wake up or starts to fuss, discontinue and postpone for later.
