Using a Pressure Cooker
Using a pressure cooking can be a little daunting, but it sure does help cutting cooking time shorter, plus the meat cooked using this cookware gets really tender. Here are some tipz on how to use a pressure cooker for first timers:
Always read the manual first before doing any cooking. Get your pressure cooker ready and everything else you need for the particular recipe you are cooking. Check for the appropriate cooking time. Make sure that you measure the exact amount of liquid needed, as a full pressure cooker will spell disaster.
Check the vent pipe if it’s unclogged. This allows excess pressure to be released. When it is clear, you can now palce the lid and secure it tightly in place. This means, both handles should be directly on top of each other.
Get the pressure regulator. This controls the pressure in the pot. Place this on top of the vent pipe. Now you can heat the pressure cooker on the stove top.
Once the appropriate pressure is reached, the pressure regulator will start to rock. Control the heat regularly so that the rocking movement is maintained.
When the heat is finally lowered, start counting the recommended cooking time. Use a timer so your meat won’t be too tender. Once the food has finished cooking, take the pressure cooker off the stove. Do not open the lid until all the pressure is released (or when the rocking of the regulator ceases). You can hasten this by running the cooker under cold water.
Once the pressure is released, carefully remove the pressure regulator and lid. You can now serve the food.
