Effective Use of Sunscreen
Here are some tipz on how to effectively use sunscreen so you can maximize its skin protection qualities:
Everyone should wear sunscreen. Most common misconception is that sunscreen keeps you from tanning. This is not true. Sunscreen does not keep your skin from turning brown but it does protect your skin from harmful UVA or UVB rays.
Wear sunscreen that hasĀ SPF of at least 15, which blocks 93% of UVB rays. The higher the number of SPF, the better it can protect your skin from harmful UVB rays.
Wear sunscreen year round even when the skies are cloudy, especially if you go outdoors a lot. Apply sunscreen at leastĀ 30 minutes before you go out. This is ample time for your skin to absorb the sunscreen. During the summer, apply as often as needed. Don’t forget to drink lots of water too to keep your skin hydrated. Don’t forget to moisturize your lips with lip balm that has UV protection.
Not all sunscreen can protect your skin from both UVA and UVB rays. Buy a brand that has both. And if possible, you can also choose one that is water resistant so you can apply it during rainy days or when you’re going to the beach. However, this doesn’t mean that it won’t wear off. Apply often.
Aside from sun screen, you can also wear a hat or use a parasol. Early morning sun is beneficial but when it hits midday, try to stay in the shade if there is any in the area.
