How to Use TinyURL.com

February 12, 2010 | In: Computers, Featured, Internet

Some webpages have very long url’s. There’s nothing wrong with them, except that they can be unsightly when you see them pasted on an e-mail or a blog post or on facebook.

Aside from aesthetic purposes, you may want to shorten url’s if your site or blog is under free hosting and you have a long url. You can use a shorter url to redirect to your site.

There is a site called http://www.tinyurl.com which can help you with this “problem.” Simply go to this site (or click on the link).

Copy the url you wish to shorten. Paste this into the box provided in the site.

If you wish to make an “alias,” you can create one at the box below, provided that it hasn’t been used yet. Click the “Make TinyURL” button.

Wait for a few seconds and the short version of the url will be generated. It may look like this: http://www.tinyurl.com/link2.

If you happen to need this on a regular basis, you can easily drag the TinyURL link to your toolbar, so you don’t need to go to the tinyurl site.

You can also Use tinyurl to hide your site from being involved in marketing schemes.
