Finally after weeks of searching, you’re now done with the job interview. But then what? Time for more agonizing waiting. So what do you do when time seems so slow?
Be patient. Most company have many levels of interviews. If this is your first interview in the process, then you have to understand that the company has a policy on how to review each candidate. A reply can come in anytime from one to two weeks from the day of your interview.
Don’t waste your time. Search for work as usual, inquire via e-mail or by phone and send your resume to companies. It will be easier to say that you have already found work when these companies do get back to you, than to use your time waiting for uncertainty.
E-mail or send a thank you note to your interviewers. So don’t forget to ask for their business cards before leaving the interview room. This small gesture is not only polite, but it also says something about your professionalism. This will leave a good impression on your interviewer, if you haven’t already.
If you still don’t get a reply after a week or two, you can now phone the company. If you get voicemail, calmly state your name and your purpose so they can call you back.
If you get rejected, curb your disappointment and anger for a moment. Call the interviewer and use the opportunity to get feedback. This not only shows professionalism, but also the fact that you are willing to learn. This could also help you in the future when the the company might consider you for another position, if there is an opening in the future.
