Write A Cover Letter
Job hunting calls for a positive attitude among applicants. It also requires a job seeker to submit several important documents such as the resume and cover letter. During this time of crisis when many major companies are laying off their workers, job applicants really have to strive hard to be noticed by potential employers.
A good way of letting companies know that you’re qualified for a specific position and you have what it takes to contribute to the organization’s success is by submitting a well written cover letter apart from your curriculum vitae. This letter normally accompanies the resume and so it’s recommended that you learn the proper way of writing it for your own benefit.
While your resume contains all the details of your personal information, education and work experience, the cover letter informs potential employers of the highlights of your previous job experience or of your educational background, trainings and internships if you’re a fresh graduate. It should state the ways you were able to accomplish your tasks, the skills you applied in performing your job, how you were able to contribute to the organization’s growth and your future goals in your chosen career path.
Being the first link to your prospective employer, the cover letter should be written with care and much thought. As much as possible, make your English perfect. Remember that you are making a first impression with this document so do your best to avoid grammatical errors.
Basically, there are three types of cover letters. The application letter is aimed at responding to a certain job opening published online, in the newspaper or broadcast on radio or TV. The second type is the prospecting letter which seeks to ask about openings in certain positions and the third is known as the networking letter which seeks information in one’s search for a job.
The format of your cover letter should follow the global style commonly used today. The first part of your letter should specify the reason for your writing an application letter. Apart from stating the fact that you’re applying for a certain position, include the source as well such as the newspaper, online job site or a friend who referred to you the job.
The next part should enumerate your skills and your previous experiences which would prove useful to the position you’re applying for. Make sure to write about your positive traits and skills as well as marked achievements in your former position. If you’re prospecting, you may prove your knowledge of the company adding that you have the potential to meet the goals of the organization because of the skills you possess.
The closing part of your letter should state your interest in the position and where you can be reached. Include your phone number, mobile phone number and email address. It would also be best to indicate that your references can be reached anytime.
In case you live in another place outside of the company’s location, do inform the company of your scheduled visit to go the place in a certain time so that they can arrange a possible meeting or interview with you.
Keep in mind that your cover does not have to be a long one. Make it simple and direct to the point.
