How to Write a Letter of Sympathy
March 23, 2010 | In: Featured, General, Relationship

It’s not that difficult to write a letter expressing sympathy to the family of a departed. Here are some guideline to help you:
Make it more personal yet appropriately composed. Use personal stationery and write using a pen with blue or black ink.
If you know the deceased but not the family, you can address the letter to the closest relative of the deceased. This can be the spouse or the eldest child, or parents. If you know the relative but not much acquainted with the deceased, you can write to that relative only.
Make the letter short but meaningful. Express your sympathy and acknowledge their loss. If you know the deceased, or if you recall how your friend talks about the deceased, try to include a personal memory. Offer support and assistance.
Please accept my sincere condolences for the terrible loss of your mother. I remember how you would always say how you love her very much. It must have been wonderful to have her in your life. If there is anyway I can help you and your family, please do not hesitate to call.
