Parent Alone Time
Running haggard with all the hustle and bustle of home life? You don’t have to be so. Remember that stressed-out parents make for grumpy ones. Here are some tipz on how to have a little bit of quiet time without feeling like you’re the worst parents in the world for it:
You don’t have to do everything by yourself. Distribute housework to each member of the family. Keep a list on your refrigerator door so that they are reminded of their daily tasks. Shave time off your schedule by eliminating the small jobs such as setting the table, taking out the trash, or clearing up toys. Minding the younger kids can be (for a little extra pocket money) delegated to the older siblings. If all else fails, you can hire a babysitter to watch over your kids.
If your kids are quite young, use their nap time to sip a glass of cold iced tea on the porch swing and breathe. If the young ‘uns are old enough to appreciate taking lessons, you can enroll them in special classes such as music lessons or whatnots. You don’t have to shell out extra money. Most communities have special activity programs for children. You can use the time while they’re away to do some shopping, etc.
Impose a ME time. Designate fifteen or so minutes to yourself. Let the children know that from 9:00 to 9:30 in the evening, mommy (or daddy) cannot be disturbed. Take a power nap. Watch a 30 minute TV show. Take a bath. This time is for yourself, use it wisely.
