Study Tips: How to Memorize
January 1, 2010 | In: Education
Yes, studying for an exam is torture to most students, especially if you need to memorize a lot of facts. You really don’t have to be a nerd (or a cheater) to be good at exams.
The key to studying is not to cram, making sure that you cover a bit of ground everyday so you would only have to review the evening before the exam. Here are some pointers on how to help you memorize facts and get ready for that history test or whatnot:
Take good notes in the classroom. Make sure that you divide your notebook in sections, depending on the subject, or you can have a separate notebook per subject. This will make it easier to find them when you need them. Leave enough space or create margins so you can add more notes when you have read supporting facts.
If you need to memorize terms or dates, you can use flash cards which you can peruse while on your way to school or during study hall. Simply write down key words or dates on index cards (remember to recycle!) and “flash” them over and over again until you have them in your head.
Associate events, people, or points with something. Formulate codes or acronyms. These devices can help you memorize easier.
It’s good to have a study buddy who can quiz you after you’re done studying.
