Surviving a Noisy Environment

Tuning Out the Noise

A bawling baby on the plane, a roommate or dorm mate who plays emo songs 24 hours a day, bickering couple from next door – we all get that noisy annoyance at some point. If you’ve done everything you can to make the noise stop (short of moving elsewhere) but nothing works, here is how to alleviate the noise level (even for just a fraction of a decibel):

The best option you can have is to tune out the noise. You can do this by buying high-quality headphones. If you have the budget for noise-canceling ones, the better. Prepare at least $150 dollars. Might be a little steep for some, but it’s definitely worth it in the long run.

You don’t need to have the headphones connected to an audio device. However, if you are not adverse to music, listen to some relaxing music instead. If you’re fond of literature, audio books are another option. Just keep the volume low, as our first objective is to protect your ears from noise pollution .

If you can’t fall asleep amidst a noisy environment, you can try drinking a cup of relaxing tea, or a glass of hot milk before going to sleep then put in a pair of ear plugs. Lie down, relax, and drift off to dreamland.
