Windows 7: How to Prevent BSOD from Restarting Your PC

November 11, 2009 | In: Computers

Some things never change. Even with the claimed advanced protection of Windows 7, we still think that it’d inevitably crash. I’ve seen a number of the famed Blue Screen of Death in Windows Vista but they’re not as frequent as say, what I experienced with Windows XP so that’s an improvement.

The BSOD offers you with some information on why Windows crashed and some users prefer. By default, Vista and 7 restarts your PC automatically when you experience this. To stop this behavior:

1. Press Windows Key + Pause/Break to launch the Control Panel System screen
2. On the left-hand panel, click Advanced System Settings
3. Under the Advanced Tab, click Settings in the Sartup and Recovery section
4. In the System failure section, uncheck “Automatically restart”

Windows System Failure

5. Click OK to apply the changes.

The next time your computer crashes, you’d be stuck with a BSOD allowing you to see the details of the crash.
